Nathaniel Talking
Published in Paperback by Writers & Readers (November, 1993)
Authors: Eloise Greenfield and Jan Spivey Gilchrist
Average review score:

thoughtful and honest child's view of his world
As a poetry teacher, I was delighted to find "Nathaniel Talking" at the library. It is rare to find fun and readable poetry about contemporary children that is also honest and serious. I loved Nathaniel! He raps, mourns his mother, views his father as a hero, ponders how heavy the weight of the world must be and still remains childlike. Well, done Ms Greenfield! The illustrations, as in "Night on Neighborhood Street" are wonderful. I hope that the publisher will make "Nathaniel Talking" available for purchase again soon.

The One Page Book of 'Hamlet'

Absolutely Fascinating!
My daughter gave me the One Page Book of "Hamlet" for Christmas since I teach high school English. I had it mounted on foamboard, framed, and have it hanging in my classroom. My students are so intrigued by it and will stand in front of it reading even though they sometimes complain of having to read Shakespeare from a "book." The personnel at the store that did the framing for me were also impressed with it and wanted to know where they could buy one. I will definitely buy more of these wonderful one-page books!

The One Page Book of 'Macbeth'

A truly stunning idea - it looks incredible !!!!
As a lover of Shakespeare since high school I have a fairly large collection of Shakespeare books, audio cassettes and videos, and I regularly visit the festivals around the country. However ALL is surpassed by my One Page Book of Macbeth. When I opened the tube and unrolled the play, I was blown away ... it really is the whole play on one page. I took it to Deck the Walls to have it framed and now it sits in pride of place in my study. It works as a work of art and I can just walk up to it, look for familiar lines. I love it. I will eventually have the whole collection, if I can find enough wall space!!

It's such a great idea and I would recommend it to anyone, whether you're a Shakespeare scholar or just someone with a casual interest.

I tell you, if your short of ideas for a Christmas, this is definitely something different.

The One Page Book of 'Romeo and Juliet'

Stunning, vivid, great for home, office, or restaurant
I don't particularly care for shakespeare, having been forced to read so much of it in college. But I needed something for the wall of my office, something politically neutral and unoffensive. Something that projected a certain sense of class and style. Well, this artprint certainly fit the bill. I was enamored with the attention to detail and vivid colors. Many of my clients have commented on it as well. When I get a bigger office, I would like add additional titles from this series.

Civil War enthusiasts should learn about this campaign!
Sherman's March to the Sea is well-known, however his subsequent campaign up through the Carolinas is not. Sherman is widely considered to be the inventor of manuever warfare, and as such this is required reading. It is little known that this campaign continued for 9 days after Appomattox!

Statistical Modelling with Quantile Functions
Published in Hardcover by CRC Press (15 May, 2000)
Author: Warren Gilchrist
Average review score:

To the point with clarity
The trail that led me to this work started with "Fitting Statistical Distributions: The Generalized Lambda Distribution and Generalized Bootstrap Methods by Zaven A. Karian, Edward J. Dudewicz". Working through Karian & Dudewicz's tome recalled to mind the maddening effort I went through to switch my mental framework when first learning Object Oriented Programming. Some other "[Oldies]" might remember the transition difficulties from "Regular Programming" to OOP. Eventually it "just clicked" and I was left to wonder what in blazes was my problem. Well, thinking about probability distributions in terms of Quantile Functions rather than the "Regular Way" was sorta the same thing. Finally, it "just clicked". Gilchrist's book on Quantile Functions is very carefully written because I suspect he understands that Quantile Functions, for many, initially seem like a bass-ackward way of looking at PDFs. The Quantile approach allows, to my mind, a much more "algebraic" approach wherein Distributions can be multiplied, added, etc. resulting in something that resembles (loosely) a field. I have several books which list dozens and dozens of different distributions and their properties using "the old approach" - much like a cookbook. Via Quantile Function methodology that all seems rather primitive and disorganized. Now I KNOW from whence, how, and why the GLD came; as well as all the other Flora and Fauna in the "Distribution Zoo". To paraphrase "Morpheus" - "Nobody can tell you what the Quantile Function Approach is - you have to see it for yourself."

William and the Good Old Days
I was over 30 years old when I read the book, and it brought tears to my eyes. I have just recommended it to a woman whose grandmother is moving into a nursing home, and would recommend it to the parents or teacher or any child facing a major life change.

an outstanding introduction to leukemia for all ages
Recently,my six year old daughter was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia. Her doctor immediately gave us a copy of You and Leukemia. The One Page Book of 'Much Ado About Nothing'
Published in Poster by One Page Book Company (01 May, 1999)
Authors: William Shakespeare and Trevor Gilchrist
Average review score:

A GOOD DVD RELEASE FOR A FINE FILM!!!
William Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" is brought to life with elegance and grace. Aside from the nudity and [adult] content, this is a great film full of funny humor, a great cast and brilliant filmmaking (Credit for that goes to Kenneth Branagh, who has proven time and again that he is as fine a director as Spielberg, Lucas, and Scorcese, if not better). The second DVD release features a fine digital transfer of the film, complete in it's 1.85:1 Widescreen format. The short featurette "Making 'Much Ado'" is not the best doc ever made, but it does it's job. Other special features include the Theatrical trailer and trailers for the "When Harry Met Sally..." and "The Princess Bride" DVD's. A fine addition to the collection. Get this along with "Henry V."

Shakespeare at Its Best
I saw this movie when I was fairly young. I admit that I couldn't understand much of what was going on let along what was being said (I was nine, I wasn't exactly fluent in Olde English). Since then I've watched it many times. Not only do I understand it now, but I fully apreciate how good it is.

The movie is a very good adaptation of the play. The impressive lines that Shakespeare wrote were generally given new life in their delivery. Also, I must compliment Michael Keaton on his role. It isn't a very big one, but if you watch this movie, you'll understand why I mentioned it. Overall, this is simply a fully enjoyable movie, whether you're a fan of Shakespeare or not.

Thou shalt adore this DVD!
What a wonderful find! The DVD version of this movie is simply splendid! The segment in the DVD version called "Making Much Ado" provides a terrific, brief overview to the film and is well worth the extra dollars to invest in the DVD format. Interviews with each of the actors will help you to appreciate this movie for what it truly is: a cinematic work of excellence! You will fall in love with Shakespeare's wittiest pair, Beatrice (Emma Thompson) and Benedick (Kenneth Branagh), while admiring the absolutely gorgeous landscape of the set. Each character's unique portrayal adds to the lighthearted feel of the movie; Shakespeare's diction is handled so well that the blank verse is remarkably stimulating...even to those who usually find it detrimental. Truly a film you will not want to miss, Branagh's MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING is proof of how modern technology can so enhance the genius of the Bard.
